7 Life Lessons From How I Met Your Mother

How I Met Your Mother is a gag show that captured millions of hearts worldwide. It's a story about a guy named Ted Mosby telling his kids the story of his bitter-sweet life in New York City and meeting their mom. With his wacky friends Barney Stinson(The suit-wearing womanizer), Robin Scherbatsky(The News Reporter), Lily Aldrin(The Kindergarten Teacher), and Marshall Eriksen (The Lawyer). Their lives in the show gave us lessons that we can use in our daily lives.

  1. "Wait for it" - Barney Stinson
It's the catchphrase of the legen-waitforit-dary Barney Stinson. But in real life we can use it as insight. Good things come to those who know how to wait and strike. You need the patience for you to understand situations. If you have patience then you can master anything you want in life.

    2. "Look, you can’t design your life like a building. It doesn't work that way. You just have to live it and it’ll design itself." - Lily Aldrin, The Leap(Season 4, Episode 24)

You only live once. You don't need to create and design your life inch by inch like an architect, you need to live it and to experience it. I'm not saying that "designing" your life won't do you good but if you keep on changing your designs, then you won't be able to see your building standing and if you live your life you will see that your life will build itself to a tall skyscraper.

    3. "The great moments of your life won't necessarily be the things you do; they'll also be the things that happen to you. Now, I'm not saying you can't take action to affect the outcome of your life, you have to take action, and you will. But never forget that on any day, you can step out the front door and your whole life can change forever. You see, the universe has a plan kids, and that plan is always in motion." - Ted Mosby, Right Place At The Right Time(Season 4, Episode 22)

I think that we can all get the idea of this quote. It simply means that life is always moving. Destiny is always behind your back waiting for the right time to activate its plans for you that on any day of the year, your whole life can change in a heartbeat.

    4. "I used think family was a right, but it's a privilege, it needs to be earned." - Marshall Eriksen, Slapsgiving 2: Revenge of the Slap(Season 5, Episode 9)

Family isn't just about blood. Sometimes it's all about the people that you want to be in your life and the people that wants you in their lives. If you are a dad or a mom but you're never there for you kids then you should re evaluate things because titles should be only to the deserving and the worthy.

   5. "Aren't you tired of waiting for destiny, Ted? Isn't it time to make your own destiny?" - Robin Scherbatsky, The Magicians Code Part Two (Season 7, Episode 23)

Good things happen when you wait but greater things happen when you act. I'm not saying that you should always wait  for good things but sometimes when you really want something so bad you have to work for it and to fight for it. If fate doesn't build a bridge to what you want then get your building tools and you better start making a bridge.

  6. "The most important people in your life are the ones you can picture sitting on a porch with."
    - The Front Porch (Season 4, Episode 17)

If you're 70 or 80 years old I think you will see that the secret to happiness is with the people that you are with in the good and the bad times. So this quote is simply explaining to everyone to think over on who they want to be in their lives until they grow old and grey. Life has so many experiences but it's the hardest battles that will make you feel thankful for the people that are there to help you.

 7. "I know that you're tired of waiting. And you may have to wait a little while more, but she's on her way Ted. And she's getting here as fast as she can." - Stella Zinman, As Fast As She Can (Season 4, Season 23)

Never give up on love. The worst part of life is waiting but I know for the fact that the best part of life is having someone worth waiting for. Just think about on how you'll be happy when the right one comes into your life with a yellow umbrella. You just have to wait a little longer.

How I Met Your Mother gave us all a lot life lessons but to summarize everything, it's that destiny needs time and action. As the last season will end this 2014, I would really like to say props to the creators, directors and especially the actors. Because not only that they made us all laugh with their funny jokes, they inspired us all.
